Omega has surpassed Rolex in the race for accuracy with its newly launched watch model: The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing.

It has been 10 years since Omega introduced the first breakthrough in anti-magnetic technology and improved accuracy, which debuted on the Aquaterra model, with a magnetic resistance of up to 15,000 Gauss, combined with Omega’s Co-axial escapement. Omega has set a new standard for watches: Omega Master Chronometer Certified. This is a dual standard (in addition to COSC – Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, the watch needs to pass 8 more tests of METAS – Federal Institute of Metrology), and that is the beginning of Omega’s technological development.

To commemorate 10 years, Omega has just introduced a new member of the Speedmaster family using a new type of hairspring and an accuracy adjustment system up to 0.1 seconds/day called Omega Spirate System. With this system, the new Omega watch will have an error range from 0 seconds to +2 seconds per day, higher than even Rolex’s SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION standard which is famous for its accuracy (error range from -2 seconds to +2 seconds per day).

The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing

Carrying the latest technology of Omega, the Speedmaster Super Racing (let me abbreviate it as SSR) still has the appearance of a speedmaster using the familiar 9900 movement, with a size of 44.25mm, lug to lug 50mm, and thickness 14.9mm.

The case and bracelet are made of 316L steel, finished meticulously by brushing and polishing techniques that create an eye-catching and strong look when worn. The SSR also uses box sapphire crystal for both the front and back, allowing you to admire the entire latest and greatest 9920 movement of Omega. The Tachymeter bezel is made of scratch-resistant Ceramic with lines and numbers enamelled in Grand Feu yellow that match the tone of the hands and markers. The date window at 6 o’clock and especially the 10th day of the month will be stylized with italic font in Racing style.

The dial of the SSR is quite special with a two-layer structure (sandwich dial) with the top layer laser-cut with a honeycomb pattern and the bottom layer DLC-coated black. The hour markers are coated with Super Luminova yellow exclusive to Omega. The two subdials are arranged symmetrically at 3 and 9 o’clock with familiar concentric circles. The second hand is striped yellow and black reminiscent of the Oega Aqua Terra Bumblebee.

The steel bracelet used has a design similar to that of the Omega Moonwatch 3861 but with a size of 21mm at the lug and reduced to 16mm at the clasp. This bracelet also has a quick adjustment feature.
