Omega Seamaster 300M Professional Celebrates 60 Years of James Bond

1. Intro

Omega Seamaster 300M Professional, the special edition to commemorate 60 years of the 007 agent, was introduced in the city where MI6 headquarters is located, London. Although James Bond has worn many watches from different brands over the past 60 years, since 1995, Omega Seamaster has been the only watch associated with this agent throughout his journey to thwart schemes that affect world peace. Especially Seamaster 300M Professional was used by Daniel Craig, the actor who played the role of the 007 agent in the latest four movies and had limited editions that made fans of James Bond and watch collectors crazy. Let’s review some of these special editions before talking about this newly launched 60th anniversary watch.

2. James Bond and his Omegas

As mentioned above, James Bond started using Omega from the movie GoldenEye with the 2541.80 model with a quartz movement. In the next episode Tomorrow Never Dies with the performance of the actor that I really like (personally even more than Daniel Craig) Pierce Brosnan was the 2531.80 model with an automatic 1120 movement. In the following movies: The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day we can also catch a glimpse of the 2531.80 on the wrist of this charming agent.

Especially the 2531.80 and the 2220.80.00 are two watches that anyone who asks about James Bond’s watch at Omega Boutiques will be introduced by the staff here. This proves that attaching a watch to the image of agent 007 helps increase sales for Omega at a time when no one expected to use a movie character as a brand ambassador. The Omega Seamaster 300M with blue wave dial has been widely popularized both during and after the movie’s release in 1995.

It will not be surprising that until later, watch collectors and fans of 007 often discuss the Seamaster 300M models with the 2500 movement or Quartz version when they still appear on Daniel Craig’s wrist in Casino Royale, and especially we will see the appearance of Planet Ocean and used in the next part Skyfall.

In 2015 in the movie Spectre we saw again the appearance of Omega Seamaster Spectre, I personally really like this Seamaster 300 with vintage design and lollipop second hand.

No Time To Die is the movie that marks the return of Sea300 Pro with great improvement from Omega, the movement 8806 is placed in a titanium case, with a brown dial, hour markers on dial and bezel using Super-LumiNova vintage lume, this special edition watch created a fever at that time. Perhaps what I like least about this watch is that the bracelet is replaced by a mesh strap with a long and bulky clasp that makes it feel uncomfortable to wear even though my wrist is 18.5cm.

3. What’s in Omega Seamaster 300M celebrating 60 years of James Bond?

Personally, this is a watch that carries DNA from all three watches: 2541.80 appeared in Golden Eye movie, Sea300 Spectre and Sea300 Pro No Time To Die.

You can easily recognize that the overall design will be exactly like No Time To Die, with wave dial of 2541.80 and Lollipop second hand of Spectre. Unfortunately, this Sea300 Pro still comes with an uncomfortable mesh strap.

With size 42mm, lug to lug 49.6mm, thickness 14.26mm thick equivalent to Sea300 Pro Ceramic version, and thicker than regular Sea300 Pro models by about 0.56mm I think this new Sea300 pro is still an easy-to-wear watch for you guys with wrists from 16.5mm.

The reason for this thickness according to me is related to caseback design, when screw-down caseback is not used on this Sea300 Pro model, instead Omega uses seven screws to fix caseback. Another special thing on caseback will be an image similar to opening scene of movie.

Going into more detail on dial part, blue color has been made darker than 1995 version, wave patterns are also thicker and smoother. Lume part is also made white different from No Time To Die version creating harmony and more youthful style. And dial version does not use Ceramic material (ZrO2) but uses aluminum dial and paint on it. Broard Arrow symbol on No Time To Die also does not appear on this model, for me this is a pity.

The movement used is cal.8806 certified by Metas, 55 hours of power reserve, using silicon Si14 hairspring and retail price of this Omega is CHF7000 (excluding VAT).
